Artwork
VLS
Graphics, Inc. uses the industry standard illustration program Adobe
Illustrator 10 to design and manufacture signage. Most artwork is
done on a Macintosh system and we can accept a variety of file formats.
However, in order for VLS Graphics to process the artwork, it must
be vector artwork. Other programs that create these kinds of vector
graphics are CAD, Corel Draw, Freehand and other vector based applications.
PDF file are sometimes acceptable depending on how they are saved.
Usually, EPS or AI files are the best.
When
sending artwork digitally, it is very important that the designer
"creates outlines" of all the text. Sometimes this is
called "convert to curves." This allows the end user to
use the artwork without the need for any system installed fonts.
This also means that the text can no longer be edited. Unless prior
arrangements are made, artwork is expected to be processed immediately
without any manipulation. This requires the designer to make sure
that the artwork is ready for processing. Be sure that all artwork
is at full size and that the dimensions are noted on the PO.
Do not use strokes! Plotters and engravers follow paths
and do not recognize weighted strokes. Be sure to use "compounded
paths" to achieve the same effect as a weighted stroke.
Also, unless you are licensed you cannot do braille
translations. A braille font is NOT a translation and will result
in an incorrect (and therefore non-regulation) sign. In order to
comply with current ADA laws, you must use a braille translation
program.
You
may send all artwork and POs via email to: ada@vlsgraphics.com.
You may also address any questions or concerns to that email as
well. Please compress multiple files with StuffIt or ZipIt. If you
have any questions about sending artwork or creating proper artwork,
please email Michael Vincenti at: mike@vlsgraphics.com.
